U.S. Perpetuates Mass Killings In Iraq By Peter Phillips The United States is directly responsible for over one million Iraqi deaths
since the invasion five and half years ago. In a January 2008 report, a British
polling group Opinion Research Business (ORB) reports that, “survey work
confirms our earlier estimate that over 1,000,000 Iraqi citizens have died as
a result of the conflict which started in 2003…. We now estimate that
the death toll between March 2003 and August 2007 is likely to have been of
the order of 1,033,000. If one takes into account the margin of error associated
with survey data of this nature then the estimated range is between 946,000
and 1,120,000”. The now estimated 1.2 million dead, as of July 2008, includes children, parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, cab drivers, clerics, schoolteachers, factory workers, policemen, poets, healthcare workers, day care providers, construction workers, babysitters, musicians, bakers, restaurant workers and many more. All manner of ordinary people in Iraq have died because the United States decided to invade their country. These are deaths in excess of the normal civilian death rate under the prior government.

Video Response to BBC's 'Conspiracy Files'The Final Mystery Of 9/11? (A video response by Jon Gold to the BBC's latest episode of "Conspiracy Files," which purports to lay to rest the "mystery of 9/11." Uhm... they failed, by the way.) How Many People Question The Official Account Of 9/11? What the BBC producers probably should have watched before putting out this silly recent piece ... a BBC production by Adam Curtis, from several years ago, The Power of Nightmares: The Rise of the Politics of Fear. We encourage everyone to watch this video, and share it with others, as its historical presentation is quite valuable regarding the background of players involved with our current "War of Terror."

Little War Criminals Get Punished, Big Ones Don'tby Paul Craig Roberts July 17, 2008 National Public Radio has been spending much news time on Darfur in Western Sudan where a great deal of human suffering and death are occurring. The military conflict has been brought on in part by climate change, according to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. Drought is forcing nomads in search of water into areas occupied by other claimants. No doubt the conflict is tribal and racial as well. The entire catastrophe is overseen by a government with few resources other than bullets. Now an International Criminal Court prosecutor wants to bring charges against Sudan's president, Omar al-Bashir, for crimes against humanity and war crimes. I have no sympathy for people who make others suffer. Nevertheless, I wonder at the International Criminal Court's pick from the assortment of war criminals? Why al-Bashir? Is it because Sudan is a powerless state, and the International Criminal Court hasn't the courage to name George W. Bush and Tony Blair as war criminals?

Is the Fourth Estate a Fifth Column?Corporate media colludes with democracy’s demise Without a free and independent press, this 250-year-old experiment in self-government will not make it. As journalism goes, so goes democracy I heard this story a long time ago, growing up in Choctaw County in Oklahoma before my family moved to Texas. A tribal elder was telling his grandson about the battle the old man was waging within himself. He said, “It is between two wolves, my son. One is an evil wolf: anger, envy, sorrow, greed, self-pity, guilt, resentment, lies, false pride, superiority and ego. The other is the good wolf: joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.” The boy took this in for a few minutes and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf won?” The old Cherokee replied simply, “The one I feed.” Democracy is that way. The wolf that wins is the one we feed. And in our society, media provides the fodder. Our media institutions, deeply embedded in the power structures of society, are not providing the information that we need to make our democracy work. To put it another way, corporate media consolidation is a corrosive social force. It robs people of their voice in public affairs and pollutes the political culture. And it turns the debates about profound issues into a shouting match of polarized views promulgated by partisan apologists who trivialize democracy while refusing to speak the truth about how our country is being plundered.

The Real-Life ‘24’ of Summer 2008July 13, 2008 We know what a criminal White House looks like from "The Final Days" Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein's classic account of Richard Nixon's unraveling. The cauldron of lies, paranoia and illegal surveillance boiled over, until it was finally every man for himself as desperate courtiers scrambled to save their reputations and, in a few patriotic instances, their country. "The Final Days" was published in 1976, two years after Nixon abdicated in disgrace. With the Bush presidency, no journalist (or turncoat White House memoirist) is waiting for the corpse to be carted away. The latest and perhaps most chilling example arrives this week from Jane Mayer of The New Yorker, long a relentless journalist on the war-on-terror torture beat. Her book "The Dark Side" connects the dots of her own past reporting and that of her top-tier colleagues (including James Risen and Scott Shane of The New York Times) to portray a White House that, like its prototype, savaged its enemies within almost as ferociously as it did the Constitution. Some of "The Dark Side" seems right out of "The Final Days" minus Nixon's operatic boozing and weeping. We learn, for instance, that in 2004 two conservative Republican Justice Department officials had become "so paranoid" that "they actually thought they might be in physical danger." The fear of being wiretapped by their own peers drove them to speak in code. ... In her telling, a major incentive for Mr. Cheney's descent into the dark side was to cover up for the Bush White House's failure to heed the Qaeda threat in 2001. Jack Cloonan, a special agent for the F.B.I.'s Osama bin Laden unit until 2002, told Ms. Mayer that Sept. 11 was "all preventable." By March 2000, according to the C.I.A.'s inspector general, "50 or 60 individuals" in the agency knew that two Al Qaeda suspects soon to be hijackers were in America. But there was no urgency at the top. Thomas Pickard, the acting F.B.I. director that summer, told Ms. Mayer that when he expressed his fears about the Qaeda threat to Mr. Ashcroft, the attorney general snapped, "I don't want to hear about that anymore!"

Breaking: Greens Nominate McKinney for PresidentCongratulations to Presidential Candidate Cynthia McKinney, from everyone at 911truth.org and advocates for truth everywhere!! Even my grade-school children are cheering and dancing around the room, here in Jefferson County, Kansas!! We have a real C H O I C E ! ! ! At last!

An Original Report from Chicago The Green Party of the United States today nominated truth activist and seasoned politician Cynthia McKinney for U.S. President. In her 12 years in Congress, McKinney distinguished herself for questioning Donald Rumsfeld under oath about missing trillions at the Pentagon. She introduced articles of impeachment and asked questions about the 9/11 attacks, in 2002, when such skepticism was not tolerated from public figures. McKinney's story includes many accomplishments as a legislator. She has been the conscience for a misguided nation. But the other half of her story is not what she has done, but what has been done to her. She took the blows of fierce reaction when the political establishment and corporate centrist media attacked her for violating the taboo that demanded silence about 9/11. In 2002, GOP strategists used a special "crossover" strategy to get their voters to vote in the Democratic primary for a fake Democrat substitute for McKinney. She came back in 2004. After introducing articles of impeachment and holding congressional hearings into 9/11, Capitol Police pretended not to recognize her, which sparked a confrontation with a frustrated McKinney. The media claimed she punched a cop. McKinney lost re-election in 2006.

McCain asked about PNAC and 9/11 at town hallDavid Edwards and Muriel Kane During a town hall event in Portsmouth, OH on Wednesday, John McCain was asked by a member of the audience whether his links to the parent organization of the Project for a New American Century explain why he has been reluctant to support calls for a new investigation of 9/11. The questioner began, "I was curious about a document. Back in September of 2000, the Project for a New American Century, or PNAC, whose members included Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Jeb Bush and Paul Wolfowitz, wrote a document entitled 'Rebuilding Americans Defenses.'" As McCain turned and paced away from him, the questioner continued, "In it, they state, quote, "The process of transformation, even if it bring revolutionary change, is likely to be a long one, absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event like a new Pearl Harbor."

More on Impeachment today...July 10, 2008 Email from Rep. Robert Wexler, FL Capitol Hill is buzzing today with major developments regarding our campaign for impeachment hearings for President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney. Just today, in what could be described as a perfect impeachment storm: • Karl Rove once again thumbed his nose at Congress and the American people by brazenly ignoring a lawful congressional subpoena to testify before the House of Representatives; • Judiciary Chairman John Conyers indicated his willingness to use the power of inherent contempt against Rove if necessary; • Rep. Dennis Kucinich introduced another article of impeachment on Bush's lies regarding the Iraq war; and • Speaker Nancy Pelosi was quoted today saying that the House Judiciary Committee should address the issues that Kucinich raises in the House Judiciary Committee. After years of work by so many of you, the time appears ripe to finally hold Bush and Cheney accountable.

It is also a powerful reminder of the responsibilities of the President of the Untied States in his capacity as Commander in Chief.

Senate Passes Unconstitutional Spying Bill And Grants Sweeping Immunity To Phone CompaniesUpdate 7/10: Check the roll call for this, and the House, vote on allowing continued illegal wiretapping AND telecom immunity... This is the kind of thing you need to look at when considering who you'll vote for, and who you'll not vote for. Perhaps even who you'll run against?!
House Roll Call vote: 293-129 (with 13 not voting, including Ron Paul...) Senate Roll Call vote: 69-28 (Yes, Obama voted with every Republican in favor of this bill) – Ed.
ACLU Announces Legal Challenge To Follow President’s Signature FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE WASHINGTON – Today, in a blatant assault upon civil liberties and the right to privacy, the Senate passed an unconstitutional domestic spying bill that violates the Fourth Amendment and eliminates any meaningful role for judicial oversight of government surveillance. The FISA Amendments Act of 2008 was approved by a vote of 69 to 28 and is expected to be signed into law by President Bush shortly. This bill essentially legalizes the president’s unlawful warrantless wiretapping program revealed in December 2005 by the New York Times. “Once again, Congress blinked and succumbed to the president’s fear-mongering. With today’s vote, the government has been given a green light to expand its power to spy on Americans and run roughshod over the Constitution,” said Anthony D. Romero, Executive Director of the American Civil Liberties Union. “This legislation will give the government unfettered and unchecked access to innocent Americans’ international communications without a warrant. This is not only unconstitutional, but absolutely un-American.” The FISA Amendments Act nearly eviscerates oversight of government surveillance by allowing the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC) to review only general procedures for spying rather than individual warrants. The FISC will not be told any specifics about who will actually be wiretapped, thereby undercutting any meaningful role for the court and violating the Fourth Amendment’s protection against unreasonable search and seizure.

The Top Ten Connections Between NIST and Nano-ThermitesFrom Steven Jones Kevin Ryan shows his skills as both a chemist and a “private investigator” in his paper, “The Top Ten Connections Between NIST and Nano-Thermites” – Published July 4, 2008, in the Journal of 9/11 Studies -- http://journalof911studies.com/volume/2008/Ryan_NIST_and_Nano-1.pdf. Kevin Ryan discusses nano-thermite (“super-thermite”) and provides very important results of his own investigation of connections between NIST and researchers studying/developing nano-thermite. Several of us have been discussing nano-thermite for quite a while now. For instance, I announced in Boston last year the observation of red-gray chips which I found in WTC dust samples. (If you need to catch up, please see this short video: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4186920967571123147&hl=en). Research papers on this material are now being written/reviewed for publication.
