South Park Episode Hits Mark For Toilet Humor, But Misses On 9/11 SkepticismOctober 12, 2006 It took longer than expected, but Trey Parker and company have joined with the growing ranks of the opportunists who distort 9/11 skepticism for fun and profit (unlike the screeds by Alexander Cockburn, Matthew Rothschild and Matt Taibbi, at least the South Park episode had its humorous moments). They included the obligatory "the Jews did it" canard, and the focus taken was shallow and purposely exploitative. The underlying idea was: "the conspiracy theorists are retarded, because they believe the government was competent enough to pull off 9/11."

Olbermann Eviscerates Fox Clinton Attack, US Media Propaganda & Bush 9/11 MalfeasanceExtraordinarily powerful and career-threatening thunder from the increasingly extraordinary Keith Olbermann. Although this passionate indictment of the administration and the mainstream media does not address 9/11 truth head on, it exposes both the cowardice and complicity that has allowed deceit to prevail in America for so long and reminds us what a courageous press might look like. Stewart and Colbert may deftly satirize the government and help us laugh off its ridiculous hypocrisies, but Olbermann challenges us to a far braver game, a no-holds-barred confrontation with its lies, vile massacres, and tyranny. Democracy Now! 9/11 DebateConsidering Popular Mechanics trotted out its heaviest editorial guns to attack the assertions made in the movie, Loose Change, its young director and researcher defend their major points quite effectively and persuasively. It is interesting to note PM's repeated contention that immediate testimony from first responders and witnesses on the day of the attack should be ignored or discounted in favor of "expert" opinions and "official" analyses appearing months or years later. We think that may be engineer speak for Groucho Marx's classic defense, "Who you gonna believe? Me, or your lying eyes?"

Another Country Heard FromVenezuela's Chavez Says U.S. May Have Played Part in 9/11 Attacks
By Peter Wilson People have long speculated what might happen if Chavez ever invested a fraction of his windfall oil revenues into a credible International 9/11 Truth Commission. Since most of the really hopeful political news of the new millennium has been coming from Latin America, we certainly wouldn't mind a little help with this from our concerned southern neighbors. - Ed.Sept. 12 (Bloomberg) -- Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said the U.S. government may have been involved in the Sept. 11 attacks to help justify invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq. "The theory that is gaining force is that the U.S. empire planned and conducted this terrible act against its own people to justify its aggression," Chavez, 52, said during a ceremony broadcast on state-run Venezolana de Television.

The DisbelieversCuriously long, smart and sympathetic article on the truth movement from the Iraq war-supporting Washington Post. Match this little surprise with Amy Goodman's September 11-scheduled debate between Dylan "Loose Change" Avery and someone from Popular Mechanics' debunker squad on Democracy Now! Given that the biggest obstacles to 9/11 truth are still popular fear and ignorance, these broad blasts of audience exposure to the facts are a godsend to us all. That they are now appearing in such heretofore truth-allergic forums also bespeaks how far we've come just within the last year. Looking forward to author Powell's downstream account of the editorial politics preceding approval of this piece, the locker room reactions, and the blowback afterward.

9/11 Conspiracy Theorists Are Building Their Case Against the Government From Ground Zero By Michael Powell Washington Post September 8, 2006 He felt no shiver of doubt in those first terrible hours. He watched the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon and assumed al-Qaeda had wreaked terrible vengeance. He listened to anchors and military experts and assumed the facts of Sept. 11, 2001, were as stated on the screen. It was a year before David Ray Griffin, an eminent liberal theologian and philosopher, began his stroll down the path of disbelief. He wondered why Bush listened to a child's story while the nation was attacked and how Osama bin Laden, America's Public Enemy No. 1, escaped in the mountains of Tora Bora.

The Conspiracy to Rewrite 9/11Conspiracy theorists insist the U.S. government, not terrorists, staged the devastating attacks by Jonathan Curiel, Staff Writer Reasonably "fair and balanced" examination of the truth movement's growth and tenacity. It's curious, however, that such pieces so often cite psychological profiles of "conspiracy theorists", but never question the psychiatric terrain behind knee-jerk defenders of the official line. Are the tens of millions who still believe we found WMDs in Iraq or Saddam was behind 9/11 simply ignorant or do they have psychic needs or world views that deeply require such lies? Given all we now know about government campaigns of deception, why do only the skeptics merit incessant psychoanalysis and journalistic couch time? Just asking... - Ed.Dylan Avery has a theory that he says casts doubts on Mark Bingham's actions on Sept. 11, 2001. According to Avery, the San Francisco public relations executive never called his mom on a cell phone from the cabin of Flight 93, and never told her that "some of us here are going to try to do something." Instead, says Avery, someone using a voice synthesizer -- possibly a government official -- called Alice Hoglan on the morning that Flight 93 -- and Bingham -- became part of Sept. 11 lore. "The cell phone calls were fake -- no ifs, ands or buts," Avery says in "Loose Change," a film he wrote and directed that's one of the most-watched movies on the Internet, with 10 million viewers in the past year. "Until the government can prove beyond a shadow of doubt that al Qaeda was behind Sept. 11, the American people have every reason to believe otherwise." Avery is one of perhaps millions of Americans who believe the U.S. government -- or rogue elements within it -- either orchestrated the attacks or tacitly supported them for nefarious reasons. As the five-year anniversary of the attacks approaches, the clamor of Avery and other conspiracy theorists has gotten stronger -- and more widely accepted.

AZ Radio Host Deconstructs Popular Mechanics' 9/11 Disinfo Researcher9/11 Facts and Myths: Charles Goyette interviews Davin Coburn, editor/ researcher of PM's original 9/11 conspiracy slam
Charles Goyette Show Ever wonder why prominent "official story" apologists always shun 9/11 truth debates? Here perhaps is the nightmare that they dread. Show host Goyette is not an overt 9/11 skeptic, just a fearless interrogator with a very logical mind. One guesses the battered Mr. Coburn will be picking his interview venues with much more care next time. A podcast of this powerful show is available here. - Ed.UNOFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT
PM - Popular Mechanics: Davin Coburn "researcher, editor, reporter on the original 9/11 article"
CG: Is there information that has not been given to the public? PM: Very little... there is very little that has been held back as far as the basic facts of what happened that morning in terms of the material we looked into. CG: I was under the impression that there were a lot of facts that were withheld. I mean, the surveillance videos, for example, around the Pentagon we were told about: a hotel video, a convenience store video, we haven't seen those. Apparently they were swooped up very quickly or so the report goes.

Stop Belittling the Theories About September 11A very interesting critique of this article has been published at 911Review.com:
CIA Alum Endorses No-Plane Theories
Critique of Bill Christison's 'Stop Belittling the Theories About September 11' The author of this essay pulished in DISSIDENT VOICE, Bill Christison, is a former senior official of the CIA (which means that his essay was probably vetted by the CIA). Now Christison wants to give three cheers to "Webster Tarpley and other mistakenly labeled conspiracists." But wait a minute, if 9/11 was a domestic covert operation as most alternative theories imply, why is a former senior official from the agency that specializes in covert operations telling us to take those theories seriously? Has the leadership at the CIA seen the light? Should we expect to see new whistleblowers turning up in the CIA, and maybe even some indictments of insiders, given the newfound acceptance of 9/11 Truth in official circles? I'll call the idea that Christison genuinely wants to expose the cover-up the Strange Bedfellows Theory, and I'll leave its exploration to those who are uncritically promoting his essay. Here I'll explore a different theory: that Christison's essay is designed to undermine the work of serious independent investigators, primarily by promoting false claims and pairing them with real ones. I'll call it the Trojan Horse Theory. If the Trojan Horse Theory is correct, then the essay may be a study in the use of disinformation. In the following review, I assume that the hatchet job Christison does on the case for official complicity is the result of applying a series of disinformation rules, perhaps from some rulebook published by Christison's former employer. [Continued...] – Ed.
by Bill Christison However horrendous the crimes of two of the world's great liars and terrorists in Gaza and Lebanon, it is imperative that we not let the deeds of Ehud Olmert and George W. Bush distract us from another recent event. The U.S. alliance with Israel and the power of the lobby that lets Israel so easily influence U.S. foreign policy have been major factors in allowing the monstrous slaughter of innocent civilians in Gaza and Lebanon. What is happening in these lands may also encourage Olmert and Bush to start new hostilities in Syria and heavy, possibly nuclear, bombings in Iran -- and this entire mess of neocon pottage may lead to a new World War and clashes of civilizations and religious fundamentalisms that these two wretched politicians seem quite literally to want to impose on the rest of us. It's a tough case to make that anything else going on in the world -- anywhere -- could possibly be of equal importance. But on July 29 and 30, and then again on August 1, something else happened that increasing numbers of people believe is of equal importance. On these dates C-SPAN rebroadcast a panel discussion, held originally in late June, sponsored by an organization called the American Scholars' Symposium to discuss what really happened on September 11, 2001. Held in Los Angeles, the meeting lasted two days, and the C-SPAN rebroadcast covered one almost two-hour wrap-up session. The meeting was attended by 1,200 people interested in hearing something other than the official story of 9/11. The TV audience was evidently large enough to spur C-SPAN to broadcast the panel discussion five separate times in four days.
