Sibel Edmonds Speaks, But No One Is ListeningBrief article by Giraldi in The American Conservative giving Edmonds a bit of attention, followed by several thoughtful and very interesting comments at the source.
– Ed.
by Philip Giraldi Posted on August 27th, 2009 The American Conservative Those who are interested in issues like widespread corruption of our elected officals by foreigners have no doubt followed the ex-FBI traslator turned whistle blower Sibel Edmonds saga for the past few years. Sibel has finally testified in court under oath about some of the things that she learned while working for the bureau. The testimony was in a court in Ohio about two weeks ago. A full transcription and a useful summary appear at http://www.bradblog.com/?p=7374. In short, she names a number of Congressmen including former Speaker Dennis Hastert who took money from Turkish lobbyists. She also identifies senior State Department and Pentagon officials who apparently did the same, including our friends Marc Grossman, Paul Wolfowitz, and Doug Feith. Interestingly, she claims that Grossman blew the cover of Valerie Plame’s company Brewster Jennings back in 2001, causing CIA to shut it down, so Robert Novak was not guilty of exposing the CIA cover mechanism. In another interview given a few weeks ago, Edmonds claims that CIA was working closely with al-Qaeda in the Balkans and continued to do so until 9/11. As I have reported before, Edmonds is a credible witness who is ignored by the mainstream media and congress because her tales, if true, would be devastating to both political parties and to the Israel and Turkish lobbies. She is dismissed as a crackpot. She might in fact be blowing smoke, but now that she has testified under oath and in considerable detail making very specific accusations isn’t it time for someone in the administration to review the FBI files and stand up to say whether her accounts are true or not? Corruption in the US government is something that no one wants to talk about, particularly if powerful foreign interests are involved.

Stand with Cindy Sheehan who Stands with 9/11 TruthThis is a call to every 9/11 truth advocate who can possibly get to Martha's Vineyard this week to do so. John Walsh at Counterpunch.com, and Justin Raimondo at Antiwar.com have published the following powerful pieces asking where the anti-war movement is, now that Obama's in office. Excellent points.
As Cindy stated in the video below, "I know my son died because of 9/11 and I know we're over in Iraq and Afghanistan because of 9/11". Indeed. On August 18, Obama stated, "Those who attacked America on 9/11 are plotting to do so again. If left unchecked, the Taliban insurgency will mean an even larger safe haven from which al Qaeda would plot to kill more Americans. So this is not only a war worth fighting. This is fundamental to the defence of our people." This week, while Obama is playing golf and relaxing at the beach, nearly 100 people, including another four US soldiers (that makes another 63 so far this month), were killed in the war in Afghanistan. Were those soldiers 'fundamentally' defending this commander in chief's opportunity to have a vacation from conflict? Whitehouse spokesman Gibbs stated, "there will be a certain point in which the president will largely be down enjoying his vacation, as well as I think the vacation that millions and millions of Americans hopefully will." The soldiers and civilians in Afghanistan and Iraq are not among those "millions and millions" on vacation, (nor the six million of us in the US worrying about unemployment benefits running out while we still can't find a job and are on the verge of losing our homes, for that matter ...). A war "worth fighting", "fundamental to our defence"? I think not, sir. Finally investigating and prosecuting the crimes of 9/11 (as opposed to perceiving 9/11 as an "act of war", responded to by initiating and perpetuating our own never-ending war), as the path to END these wars and restore our civil liberties, is the action "worth fighting for" and what is needed to fundamentally defend ourselves, as well as citizens of the rest of the world. While the former "anti-war movement" in the United States has never been willing to look at the fundamental issue used as justification for the wars they opposed, 9/11 truth advocates have long maintained 9/11 Truth can indeed end them. We have an opportunity here to turn the hopeful and insightful "9/11 Truth for Peace" slogan into tangible action. Do we believe that 9/11 truth can, indeed, end these wars? Yes. Those of us who are able to get to Martha's Vineyard this week need to be there. If you can't get there, get creative. Stand in continuing, strong opposition to this madness, and in solidarity with Cindy, wherever you are. – Ed.
The Silence of the Antiwar Movement is Deafening By JOHN V. WALSH A funny thing has happened on Cindy Sheehan's long road from Crawford, Texas, to Martha's Vineyard. Many of those who claim to lead the peace movement and who so volubly praised her actions in Crawford, TX, are not to be seen. Nor heard. The silence in fact is deafening, or as Cindy put it in an email to this writer, "crashingly deafening." Where are the email appeals to join Cindy from The Nation or from AFSC or Peace Action or "Progressive" Democrats of America (PDA) or even Code Pink? Or United for Peace and Justice. (No wonder UFPJ is essentially closing shop, bereft of most of their contributions and shriveling up following the thinly veiled protest behind the "retirement" of Leslie Cagan.) And what about MoveOn although it was long ago thoroughly discredited as principled opponents of war or principled in any way shape or form except slavish loyalty to the "other" War Party. And of course sundry "socialist" organizations are also missing in action since their particular dogma will not be front and center. These worthies and many others have vanished into the fog of Obama's wars. Just to be sure, this writer contacted several of the "leaders" of the "official" peace movement in the Boston area -- AFSC, Peace Action, Green Party of MA (aka Green Rainbow Party) and some others. Not so much as the courtesy of a reply resulted from this effort - although the GRP at least posted a notice of the action. (It is entirely possible that some of these organizations might mention Cindy's action late enough and quickly enough so as to cover their derrieres while ensuring that Obama will not be embarrassed by protesting crowds.) We here in the vicinity of Beantown are but a hop, skip and cheap ferry ride from Martha's Vineyard. Same for NYC. So we have a special obligation to respond to Cindy's call.

How We Support Our False BeliefsVery interesting article picked up at 911blogger recently.

Sciencedaily.com (Aug. 23, 2009) -- In a study published in the most recent issue of the journal Sociological Inquiry, sociologists from four major research institutions focus on one of the most curious aspects of the 2004 presidential election: the strength and resilience of the belief among many Americans that Saddam Hussein was linked to the terrorist attacks of 9/11. Although this belief influenced the 2004 election, they claim it did not result from pro-Bush propaganda, but from an urgent need by many Americans to seek justification for a war already in progress. The findings may illuminate reasons why some people form false beliefs about the pros and cons of health-care reform or regarding President Obama's citizenship, for example. The study, "There Must Be a Reason: Osama, Saddam and Inferred Justification" calls such unsubstantiated beliefs "a serious challenge to democratic theory and practice" and considers how and why it was maintained by so many voters for so long in the absence of supporting evidence. Co-author Steven Hoffman, Ph.D., visiting assistant professor of sociology at the University at Buffalo, says, "Our data shows substantial support for a cognitive theory known as 'motivated reasoning,' which suggests that rather than search rationally for information that either confirms or disconfirms a particular belief, people actually seek out information that confirms what they already believe.

'United For Truth', Friday, 11 September 2009, Brussels, Belgium
UFT'09
is the third and consecutive annual event demanding an international investigation
on the 9/11 attacks and termination of wars and security policies in alarming
rise ever since.
Founded in 2007, the UFT platform that year gathered over two hundred in the streets of Brussels. In 2008 we were close to 500 to march (under the rain!) from the Council of Europe to the USA Embassy. Various organizations (CADTM, ATTAC, etc..) and personalities (G. Chiesa, P. Galand, DRGriffin, etc..) gave their support. This year we organize two gatherings on the very day: Friday 11 September at noon, Arts avenue, in front of the USA Embassy. And at 16h place du Luxembourg, in front of the European parliament. Then, at 20h, we invite you to the screening of the movie 'Zero' from Euro MP Giulietto Chiessa, organized by Liberation Films, followed by a discussion with the director. '9/11' is still in effect because more than ever we suffer from its 'consequences'. From the Afghan peasant to the simple traveller or worker on strike we have all become 'potential terrorists'!

Remote In-Flight Course Changes Facilitated By 9/11 Model Aircraft Circa 2001by Aidan Monaghan The capability to remotely transmit altered aircraft flight plan data via remote data link transmissions directly into Boeing 757 and 767 aircraft Flight Management Computers (FMCs) for use by aircraft auto-pilot functions, was technologically available circa 2001. Developed in 1999 and technologically supported by the FANS-capable (Future Air Navigation System) Honeywell Pegasus Flight Management System (FMS) for Boeing 757s and 767s by 2000, Dynamic Airborne Reroute Procedure (DARP) technology enables aircraft course changes via modified flight plan waypoints remotely transmitted and installed into aircraft FMCs by VHF or SATCOM (satellite communications) transmission uplinks. "Dynamic Rerouting, meaning the ability of controllers ... to change a filed routing once the flight is in progress ... "The new flight plan with all new waypoints goes into the data link to the comm satellite and is then downlinked into the FMSes of the individual aircraft," ... "And 'Wow,' say all the old pilots, 'Untouched by human hands!'" ... Our [dispatch] computer uplinks a route into the FMS that is identified as 'Route 2.' [You're already flying 'Route 1.']" [1]

Silencing of NYC Voters will not go Unchallenged - NYC CAN News Bulletin, August 24, 2009NYC CAN News Bulletin - FORWARD WIDELY August 24, 2009 SILENCING OF NYC VOTERS WILL NOT GO UNCHALLENGED On Monday, August 10, NYC CAN began a comprehensive review of the nearly 26,000 signatures invalidated by the New York City Board of Elections and City Clerk. With 26,003 signatures accepted as valid by the City, at least 3,997 additional signatures were needed to exceed the threshold of 30,000 signatures. 10 days, 50 volunteers and 1,000 man-hours later, we are thrilled to report we have so far discovered 6,924 signatures we will argue were wrongly invalidated. In addition, the Court has granted an extension allowing us to complete our review of 6 unfinished volumes. We anticipate having well over 7,000 additional valid signatures once the review is complete. The 50+ individuals who helped conduct the review take great pride in knowing their work has stopped the silencing of 7,000 New York City voters and allowed their voices to be heard. On Friday, August 28, we must serve a Bill of Particulars listing all signatures we argue should be deemed valid by the Court. Special Referee Louis Crespo will begin a line-by-line review of the disputed signatures on Tuesday, September 8, and is scheduled to complete his review by Friday, September 18. Pending the outcome of the Court's review of the disputed signatures, lawyers for NYC CAN and the City will begin arguing the legality of the petition's proposed amendment to the City Charter.

Whistleblower deposed in Schmidt versus Krikorian election complaint (video included)Video of Sibel's deposition is available for viewing at National Whistleblower Center, with the transcript here.
– Ed.
Sibel Edmonds finally gets to tell her story August 24, 2009 Ohio Second District Congresswoman Jean Schmidt, R-Cincinnati, filed nine election complaints against independent candidate David Krikorian concerning the 2008 election in May this year. Krikorian opposed Schmidt in the Second District Congressional race as an independent in 2008 and is seeking the Democratic nomination for the 2010 race in April. The complaints focus on Krikorian's statements during the election stating that Rep. Schmidt was taking money from organizations related to the Turkish government in exchange for denying the occurrence of what Krikorian called the Armenian Genocide at the hands of the Turks during World War I. The complaints also relate to Election Commission records on campaign contributions Schmidt received from the Turkish American Heritage PAC and the Turkish Coalition USA PAC. Since filing the complaints, Schmidt's counsel has withdrawn four complaints, and an Ohio Elections Commission three-person panel decided there was probable cause to hear the remaining complaints on Thursday, Aug. 13. The five remaining complaints will be reviewed by the entire Commission on Sept. 3.

Review of alleged detainee abuse to have narrow scope'Preliminary review' looks at whether interrogations followed guidance of the Bush 'torture memos.' By Warren Richey Staff writer of The Christian Science Monitor from the August 24, 2009 edition In a highly contentious move, Attorney General Eric Holder on Monday appointed a special prosecutor to take a fresh look at whether US officials violated the law through harsh treatment of detainees during the Bush administration's war on terror. Mr. Holder said he was authorizing John Durham, a career Justice Department prosecutor, to conduct a "preliminary review into whether federal laws were violated in connection with the interrogation of specific detainees at overseas locations." He did not identify those detainees by name or where they were allegedly mistreated. "I fully realize my decision to commence this preliminary review will be controversial," Holder said. "In this case, given all the information currently available, it is clear to me that this review is the only responsible course of action for me to take." The announcement came shortly after the administration released a redacted version of a 2004 CIA Inspector General's report on harsh interrogation tactics. The report said CIA interrogators threatened to kill the children of alleged 9/11 mastermind Khaled Shaikh Mohammed, and threatened another detainee with a power drill and suggestions that if he didn't talk his mother would be brought into the room and raped in front of him.

War Crimes Should be Prosecuted!By Debra Sweet CIA Torture Report to be Released The release of the long-anticipated CIA report, quashed since 2006 by the Bush regime, and then postponed several times by the Obama administration, is set for Monday August 24. It's been leaked. Newsweek and the Guardian UK, "Bombshell report on CIA interrogations is leaked" report the CIA used mock executions to terrorize detainees through threatening the use of pistols and electric drills. It's reported that the Attorney General will make a decision in the next few days on whether to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate allegations of torture. The New York Times analyzed the problem Eric Holder is up against, having been instructed by Barack Obama not to look "backward" while saying "we do not torture":

Lockerbie Doubtsby Lisa Pease August 21, 2009 Consortium News In any kind of major transnational event, there is the historical truth, what actually happened, and the political truth, what must have happened for the nations involved to continue on as before. Sometimes, these accounts match; other times, these "truths" are wildly divergent, which appears to be the case with the Lockerbie bombing. This decision caused an uproar in the United States. Obama administration officials lodged angry protests; family members of the victims decried the move, and TV pundits joined in the lamentations. But what do they really know about the Lockerbie bombing, beyond what they've read in the last few days? The truth about what happened at Lockerbie appears quite a bit more complex than the cookie-cutter version presented by the mainstream media. Several longtime observers of the al-Megrahi case have concluded that it has always been weak, at best.
