On September 11, 2007, 911Truth.org Supports US Rediscovery of the General Strike
In solidarity with a growing number of patriotic grassroots groups on both

Kansas City, MO (PRWEB) September 1, 2007 — In solidarity with a growing number
of patriotic grassroots groups on both the right and left, 911truth.org proudly
announces its support for the revival of populist direct actions to confront
governmental behavior we see as increasingly criminal and intransigent. Given
the continuing unwillingness of our federal representatives to end the war,
restore Constitutional protections or address the high crimes and misdemeanors
of a lawless leadership, 911truth.org urges all freedom-loving Americans to
spend September 11, 2007, rediscovering the compelling democratic history of
people’s movements and the general strike.
In response to increasing calls for a general strike on this year’s sixth 9/11
anniversary by grassroots coalitions such as www.strike911.org, 911truth.org
is encouraging participants to maximize the transformative impact of the day
with a few inspiring hours of study.
Janice Matthews, executive director of 911truth.org, states, "We face
a grave array of dangers caused, exacerbated and/or ignored by a non-responsive
government, and we must therefore remind ourselves how victims of other authoritarian
regimes rose up to reclaim basic democratic rights and popular sovereignty.
Not all succeeded, of course, but we can learn from their mistakes as well as
their victories, and considering the rate our Constitutional protections have
been evaporating, the nation needs a crash course in peoples power right now."
Strategy advisor W. David Kubiak concurs, "Even a quick Wikipedia tour
of ‘general strike’ offers many rich lessons about people facing the same crises
of popular sovereignty that Americans face today. Courageous citizen outpourings
in the Philippines, Czechoslovakia, the Ukraine, etc. have confronted, and evicted,
corrupt fascistic regimes with nothing but their peaceful numbers and unquenchable
thirst for liberty. We believe it is time for North Americans to finally learn
from that stirring legacy, and we urge them to take September 11th off to do
it if they can."
911truth.org research coordinator Bryan Sacks adds, "Americans may be
surprised by the history of the general strike, including Britain’s 1926 General
Strike which saw nearly two million workers strike for 12 days to improve miners’
working conditions, the four-day San Francisco General Strike of 1934 following
the two-month Big Strike by West coast longshoremen and the five-day Seattle
General Strike in 1919. As the local mayor observed about the latter, ‘The so-called
sympathetic Seattle strike was an attempted revolution. That there was no violence
does not alter the fact … The general strike is of itself the weapon of revolution,
all the more dangerous because quiet … That is to say, it puts the government
out of operation. And that is all there is to revolt — no matter how achieved.’
In the past these massive peaceful protests have proved to be one of the people’s
most powerful tools to spur reforms from an unresponsive leadership, and we
think its implications should be obvious today."
911truth.org is a national information clearing house and grassroots resource
center for the US 9/11 truth movement. The group is dedicated to investigation,
education, organizing, and accountability regarding the recent criminal misuse
of government to promote fear, repression and endless war.
