Another Country Heard From

People have long speculated what might happen if Chavez ever invested a fraction of his windfall oil revenues into a credible International 9/11 Truth Commission. Since most of the really hopeful political news of the new millennium has been coming from Latin America, we certainly wouldn't mind a little help with this from our concerned southern neighbors.

The Disbelievers

Curiously long, smart and sympathetic article on the truth movement from the Iraq war-supporting Washington Post. Match this little surprise with Amy Goodman's September 11-scheduled debate between Dylan "Loose Change" Avery and someone from Popular Mechanics' debunker squad on Democracy Now! Given that the biggest obstacles to 9/11 truth are still popular fear and ignorance, these broad blasts of audience exposure to the facts are a godsend to us all. That they are now appearing in such heretofore truth-allergic forums also bespeaks how far we've come just within the last year. Looking forward to author Powell's downstream account of the editorial politics preceding approval of this piece, the locker room reactions, and the blowback afterward.

Reasonably "fair and balanced" examination of the truth movement's growth and tenacity. It's curious, however, that such pieces so often cite psychological profiles of "conspiracy theorists", but never question the psychiatric terrain behind knee-jerk defenders of the official line. Are the tens of millions who still believe we found WMDs in Iraq or Saddam was behind 9/11 simply ignorant or do they have psychic needs or world views that deeply require such lies? Given all we now know about government campaigns of deception, why do only the skeptics merit incessant psychoanalysis and journalistic couch time? Just asking...

Professor’s 9/11 Theories Outrage NH Leaders

Here we go again! Welcome to an oddly identical reprise of Kevin Barrett's 9/11 free speech ordeal in Wisconsin, but this time with a tenured professor in "Live Free or Die!" land. Let us hope that Dr. Woodward is as comfortable and skilled with his 15 minutes of beleaguered fame as was Mr. Barrett.

PS: The Manchester Union Leader is often cited as the most conservative paper in America, yet they ran three of the hardest hitting 9/11 truth ads ever published right before the 2004 presidential primary. In that regard they do respect free speech, at least if you're willing to pay for it.
