Torture, Murder, Bush, Kissinger and The Mothers of the Disappeared in Argentina: America on the Brink of Horror

This starkly realistic editorial from Buzzflash considers potential ramifications of the Military Commissions Act of 2006, reminding us of relatively recent South American history following a similarly tragic path. Given the many examples of the repercussions of unbridled power in just the last century of history, this editor asks, "What will it take for us to rise to the occasion, America? Must history repeat because we refuse to learn from the past?"

The Center for Constitutional Rights has already filed litigation against parts of this legislation, on October 2, 2006. CCR Executive Director Vincent Warren said: "Last week, Congress voted to have the United States join the ranks of the nations of the world that have authorized indefinite detention without trial and torture without accountability. For over two hundred years, our Constitution has guaranteed that we would not sacrifice our democratic principles even in times of crisis. In this first challenge to the MCA, we demand that the Administration uphold the Constitution which has, and should continue to be, the pillar of living in a democratic society."

This is but one example of resistance, and we encourage readers to be aware of and support every effort to stop the imminent threats of this constitutional crisis. Talk to your neighbors (how will we stand together if we don't even know each other?). Hold community meetings and inform others of what's going on. Put your money to work supporting truthtellers and organizations fighting for us--time to take every penny back from the war machine and the liars. Read. Think. Discuss. Act. Now is the time.

“A Total Rollback Of Everything This Country Has Stood For”

September 29, 2006 The Senate has agreed to give President Bush extraordinary power to detain and try prisoners in the so-called war on terror. The legislation strips detainees of the right to challenge their own...

Sources: August Terror Plot is a ‘Fiction’ Underscoring Police Failures

Horror has long been a popular Hollywood genre and filled theater seats for generations. Taking the hint, the Karl Rove crowd in Washington, the other great mecca of American fantasy, is now working to keep conservative Congressional seats filled using B movie terror tales. Their latest over-hyped production was the 'liquid explosives' plot that the UK supposedly took down on August 10th. Like most made-for-TV thrillers, it's a wee bit light on facts, truth and reality as "War Against Truth" author Nafeez Ahmed shows below.

Taking to the Streets on 9/11

Truly moving account of the September 11 truth actions in New York. Given all the potentially risky fault lines that weekend between the families, the police, the truth activists, and even within the movement, the cohesive and optimistic energy that marked this "anniversary" is a sign of both increasing compassion and progress, and should give us all a lot of hope.

The Disbelievers

Curiously long, smart and sympathetic article on the truth movement from the Iraq war-supporting Washington Post. Match this little surprise with Amy Goodman's September 11-scheduled debate between Dylan "Loose Change" Avery and someone from Popular Mechanics' debunker squad on Democracy Now! Given that the biggest obstacles to 9/11 truth are still popular fear and ignorance, these broad blasts of audience exposure to the facts are a godsend to us all. That they are now appearing in such heretofore truth-allergic forums also bespeaks how far we've come just within the last year. Looking forward to author Powell's downstream account of the editorial politics preceding approval of this piece, the locker room reactions, and the blowback afterward.

The Conspiracy to Rewrite 9/11

Reasonably "fair and balanced" examination of the truth movement's growth and tenacity. It's curious, however, that such pieces so often cite psychological profiles of "conspiracy theorists", but never question the psychiatric terrain behind knee-jerk defenders of the official line. Are the tens of millions who still believe we found WMDs in Iraq or Saddam was behind 9/11 simply ignorant or do they have psychic needs or world views that deeply require such lies? Given all we now know about government campaigns of deception, why do only the skeptics merit incessant psychoanalysis and journalistic couch time? Just asking...
