So the 'holiday season' has brought us a rehash of the recent attack on 9/11 skepticism from the schizophrenic www.counterpunch.org.
Apparently at Counterpunch, if you are a commentator with a fair amount of intellectual/political capital, you can write articles that suggest the 9/11 attacks were helped by US complicity. Alexander Cockburn and Jeffrey St. Clair will be happy to publish it on the front page (see any number of Paul Craig Roberts' articles posted there, for instance).
To the rest of us ordinary people, Cockburn offers the back of his hand at the suggestion of complicity (see http://www.counterpunch.org/cockburn11282006.html). 'Nutty conspiracy theorists', all. Yet his own diatribe contains the crucial admission which certifies the importance of 9/11 skepticism. More on that in a subsequent post.
For now, here are two 'nutty' pieces from Peter Dale Scott and Peter Lance on the amazing career of terrorist and US government employee, Ali Mohamed.
What Lance's work shows, undeniably and foremost, is that the 9/11 attacks were the entirely foreseeable consequences of US covert politics as usual. It is the policy of US intelligence to employ literally anyone, be they murderers of heads of state, terrorist trainers or planners of a plot to blow up the World Trade Center, if it is determined that they are useful as 'strategic assets'.
Not 'capture and bring to justice', but 'employ and protect from prosecution'. That's not 'blowback', it's complicity in terror before and after the fact.
It also reminds us that due to the longstanding and plentiful ties US intelligence has to terrorists at any given moment in time, those terrorists are always available to be used or framed should US intelligence ever see fit to use or frame them. For anything. And those of us on the outside - meaning virtually everybody, including most others within the intelligence apparatus and certainly including those in Congress who supposedly have 'oversight' as well as the public - can never know with a sufficient degree of confidence that they've gotten the full story on a deeply covert operation. Remember, even the much-celebrated 'independent, nonpartisan and thorough' 9/11 Commission was denied direct access to Khaled Sheikh Mohammed and the other supposed masterminds of the plot. The Commissioners were not permitted to ask direct questions of the accused. Instead, they (laughably) were told to submit their questions which the CIA promised they would hand deliver and submit the answers to the Commissioners.
How helpful! And how unsatisfactory. And how standard.
Back to the current case. If Lance and Scott are correct, Ali Mohamed is guilty if conspiring to kill Anwar Sadat and Meir Kahane, and blow up the WTC in 1993. He lived in Osama Bin Laden's home, declared his 'love' for him publicly to Patrick Fitzgerald before the 1993 WTC bombing, trained Al Qaeda terrorists, and no doubt figured in a host of other capital crimes. So who was he ultimately working for during the different phases of his career as a terrorist murderer? Since the final sources are the terrorists themselves and the covert intelligence types who employed them and who make a career of telling lies, how on earth can you know what to believe?
That's the world of 'intelligence'. You can't reliably find the bottom of it from the outside. How again does this benefit the people?
We hope readers will focus more on facts, and less on the speculative conclusions drawn by Lance. It's baffling how he can claim that Mohamed 'bamboozled' or 'snookered' his handlers right after Lance claims Mohamed told Fitzgerald he loved Bin Laden and could make an 'operation' happen in an instant. The indisputable facts are that Mohamed was permitted the space by his US sponsors to train terrorists and hatch plots, for whatever reason. That's the important thing, not Lance's speculation on how he was able to outsmart his handlers. Better that we leave open the question of just how Mohamed was able to bring this off, as Scott does, in concluding that:
"It's time to confront the reality that these (US intelligence) agencies themselves, and their own sponsorship and protection of terrorist activities, have aggravated the greatest threats to our national security."

9/11 and American Empire: Intellectuals Speak Out
David Ray Griffin, Peter Dale Scott, Peter Phillips, Kevin Ryan, Ray...
Sibel Edmonds' latest essay makes a strong case that, among the powerful in government, there is no principled interest in protecting Americans from the legitimate threats posed to them. Shedding more light on the corrupting influence of big lobbying, Edmonds shows once again that real security for Americans is routinely sold out for profit. The 9/11 attacks have not changed this basic fact. Edmonds' "foreign agents by default," like the treasonous James Baker, routinely trump up false threats and ignore true ones, all to keep the flow of cash coming for themselves and their sponsors. As 9/11 skeptics have argued for two years now, the 9/11 Commission Report was simply a well-publicized effort to create the appearance of due diligence while assuring that no real structural changes to the corrupt status quo would occur. The hint of resignation in Edmonds' last paragraph may indicate that the enormous pressure she has been under has taken its toll. This would certainly be understandable. Ironically, in her resignation she comes closest to telling the truth of the matter. Congress will not address core corruption. Its most powerful members are deeply complicit in the corruption (see Edmonds' own pointed expose of Dennis Hastert's influence-peddling, for example), and in fact cannot rise to the level of power without becoming corrupt themselves. This is the way the game is played. Electing a handful of new Democrats will not change this - not, at least, without citizens applying continuous, and enormous public pressure. Two caveats: Edmonds does seem to underestimate the motivation that domestic members of the investor class have on their own to steal the future of American citizens. Carlyle Group-type corruption should not be blamed on the corrupting influence of foreign interests. The American kleptocrats need no push from foreigners. Second, Edmonds does not pay enough attention to the way that Washington trumps up the terror threat to keep the public off balance, making it easier to fund aggressive wars and shift hundreds of billions from 'butter to guns.' Still, Edmonds' diagnosis is important for helping to build public consciousness around the ruinous impact of the normalization of investor class lobbying.
The clear-thinking Paul Craig Roberts shines a
spotlight on the most pressing matters confronting
Congressional Democrats: first, repeal the ghastly
post-9/11 legislation that has been used to hollow out
our civil liberties, revoke habeas corpus and justify
torture. Second, admit the illegality of our military
aggression in Iraq and Afghanistan and make the
architects of the policy fully accountable.
Roberts hits the nail on the head in saying, "The
notion that Americans can be protected from "terror"
by giving up the Bill of Rights is absurd. . . The
legislation that has been passed during the Bush
regime is far more dangerous to Americans than Muslim
terrorists."
Another very good piece of media coming out of the Colorado events of October 28th and 29th, 2006, this time from the Boulder Daily Camera. An exceptionally well written piece reporting in a courageous way rarely seen in mainstream coverage of September 11th. Taken together, this is some of the best coverage to date of the 9-11 truth movement in the mainstream media.
Many 9/11 truth-seekers will remember the 2004 book
"Cover-Up" by investigative reporter Peter Lance.
Inside he recounts the story of rogue FBI agent Lin
DeVecchio's close ties to a mob executioner, and the
ensuing cover-up engineered by FBI officials to frame
an innocent man for DeVecchio's crimes. The despicable
frame-up was meant to protect the careers of
several top prosecutors who had made it big from
guilty verdicts helped by testimony from DeVecchio. If
DeVecchio was exposed for the seriously corrupt official he
was, their careers might have been jeopardized in some
fashion. But the cover-up succeeded.
Here is another soul-crushing example of the prevailing atmosphere of
corruption inside federal law enforcement. Another group of murders covered up, once
again to protect a career-boosting conviction. This
time, it's the 'national security' defense that's
being dredged up - a likely indicator of the large
scope of the cover-up.
Without a review mechanism ensuring full transparency,
we can expect these sorts of cover-ups to recur any
time the crimes of the powerful are threatened with
exposure. It's just another appalling aspect of the
current state of affairs.
Dear Media,
